A 5.2 magnitude earthquake rocked Kalpin County in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 6:02 p.m. Friday, state and local seismological networks reported.
It occurred at 40.7 degrees north latitude and 78.7 degrees east longitude. The state seismological network said it was six km deep.
The quake occurred at the juncture of Kalpin and Akqi counties.
So far, no casualties or damage have been reported.
The civil affairs authority of Kalpin County has sent officials to the stricken area.
Kalpin, sparsely-populated, is located in the Tianshan Mountains. It is about 1,200 km from the region's capital Urumqi.
