People who have lived for an accumulated seven years in Shanghai, China's economic hub, may have the chance to obtain a permanent ID there, said Shanghai mayor Han Zheng, on Saturday.
He made the remarks when answering a netizen's question during an online chat, saying that detailed regulations will be released on Monday on the municipal government's Web site.
Han also disclosed that besides living seven years in Shanghai, the person who wants to acquire a permanent residence should also pay taxes, and participate in social security, among others.
Shanghai, with a population of 19 million, has 13 million permanent residents, according to Han.
