Ninety-six miners were trapped in a coal mine gas blast in north China's Shanxi Province on Sunday.

The accident occurred at about 2: 00 a.m. Sunday at a mine of Shanxi Jiaomei Group in Gujiao City near Taiyuan, the provincial capital, when 436 miners were working underground.

According to an initial check, 96 miners were trapped underground.

Zhang Baoshun, the provincial Communist Party committee chief, and Provincial Governor Wang Jun are rushing to the mine.
