Nine people were killed and nine others injured in a traffic accident Tuesday in south China's Guangdong Province, local police said Wednesday.

The accident occurred at about 11:40 a.m. when a truck with 18 people aboard was traveling from Wuhua Village to Ge'an Village in Luoxi Township, Shanwei City. The truck suddenly swerved off the road.

Six people died at the scene and three died in hospital. The nine injured remain under treatment.

The Shanwei City government set up a team to investigate the accident.
