11 dead as van plunges into river in SW China

Eleven people were killed and another was missing after a van plunged into a river in southwest China's Yunnan Province Wednesday, local police said.

The accident occurred at about 3 p.m. when a van carrying 12 people plunged more than 70 meters into the Jinsha River in Yongshan County, Zhaotong City, police said.

Ten people died at the scene and another died in hospital. Rescuers are still searching for the missing person.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
