Shanghai Library recently announced that following the successful launch of digital mobile reading devices, it has introduced a new type of audio book device, named the "Sunlight audio book device," which is specifically designed for visually-challenged readers.
In addition, the library will promote checkout services for audio book devices
As braille books are typically large and heavy, and the process of "reading" braille through touch is strenuous, audio materials have therefore long been well received by visually-challenged readers.
However, existing cassette audio books are limited in the amount of material they can hold and lack variety. The timely launch of the new audio book devices will therefore greatly satisfy the needs of visually-challenged readers.
The new audio book devices at the size of an average cell phone, is easy to carry and can store the content of over 2,000 books. It also features braille touch buttons and can be operated with an audio guide. Since the checkout services commenced a month ago, the library has received positive feedback from its visually-challenged readers.
