Chinese pop singer Man Wenjun was detained for alleged drug-abuse, local police confirmed Wednesday.

After receiving a telephone tip, police raided a nightclub named Coco Banana in Beijing's Chaoyang district at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Man was given a urine test which tested positive for drugs, said a police officer surnamed Zi with the publicity office of the Beijing public security bureau.

Police did not say what drugs Man was taking.

According to a report from the China News Service, the singer had been holding a party for his wife to celebrate her birthday.

40-year-old Man started his singer's career in a pub and became famous in 1996. He was a torch-bearer for the Beijing Olympics and was liked by his fans for his healthy image.
