Two people were killed as torrential rains triggered a landslide in south China's Guangdong Province, said local authorities on Saturday.
The landslide occurred Friday midnight, when two houses were destroyed in Xingning city in Guangdong's northeast, burying two people.
Rescuers later pulled out the pair, but failed to save their lives, according to a press release from the Guangdong provincial flood-control and anti-drought headquarters.
Detailed information of the victims is not yet available.
Information from the website of the Guangdong meteorological station suggested that maximum rainfall in the province from 2 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday had reached 360.7 millimeters.
The province forecasted rains in the following several days as well, especially in the southern parts which are to be soaked by downpour.
The flood-control and anti-drought headquarters issued an urgent circular Saturday afternoon, ordering local governments to closely monitor weather changes and brace for possible flooding. Source:Xinhua
