Guangxi Tourism Bureau announced that Guilin—Taiwan direct charter flight was expected to be available in July. Presently, China Southern Airlines and China Airlines intend to run the Guilin—Taiwan direct charter flights.

May 20, members of Guangxi Tourism Caravan organized by Guangxi Tourism Bureau arrived at Taipei SonShan Airport by taking a charter flight run by Shenzhen Airlines. The flight lasted two hours. Guilin is the only city in Guangxi that has direct flights to Taiwan right now. Guangxi Tourism Caravan's trip in Taiwan directly contributed to the success of the first flight of Guilin—Taiwan direct charter flights. Chen Jianjun, director of Guangxi Tourism Bureau announced that presently China Southern Airlines and China Airlines have shown intention to run Guilin—Taiwan direct charter flight.

Guilin and Taiwan are closely connected in areas like commerce, tourism and culture. Taiwan has been the main source of tourists to Guilin. The number of tourist from Taiwan to Guilin is up to 300 or 400 thousand every year.
