Following the successful organization and hosting of the 2008 Olympic Games, the world witnessed Beijing became a more prosperous, civilized, harmonious and livable city.
Seven years ago when Beijing won the bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games, the capital was in a critical stage with per capita GDP amounting to 6,000 USD up from 3,000 USD. During the seven years of preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games, by prioritizing a "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics," Beijing pushed its work to new heights.
Seven years later, Beijing's total output value has exceeded one trillion yuan (147 billion USD), with per capita output value amounting to over 9,000 USD. Evolving into a well-developed metropolis, Beijing upgrades the quality of economic growth, promotes equalization of public services, integrates urban and rural development, intensifies construction management and accelerates its pace of internationalization.
Beijing has made a clear and firm decision. On 27 September 2008, just 10 days after the closing ceremony of the Beijing Paralympics, the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC held a standing committee meeting and agreed to persist in scientific development and build a "green, high-tech and people's Beijing." This was a continuation of the Olympic Games achievements as well as the start of new development.
Post-Olympic Beijing has started a new and historic leap-forward by further acting in the spirit of the Olympic Games, promoting the idea of the Olympics so as to build a green, high-tech and people's Beijing.
