A huge iron ore deposit with proven reserves of more than 3 billion tons was recently found in Dataigou, Qiaotou town of Benxi, Liaoning Province. It now becomes Asia's biggest iron ore deposit, according to a report by China News Agency.

It is estimated that the amount of iron ore reserves exceeds 3 billion tons. Theoretically, the amount of reserves is likely to double. At present, prospecting work in that area still continues.

The amount of reserves at the Dataigou deposit is equivalent to the total amount of reserves of all iron-ore mining areas in Liaoning Province's Anshan and Benxi regions, which are rich in iron ore resources. Furthermore, this deposit has characteristics such as deep burial depth, long extension of ore body, steep obliquity and a vast size of ore body.

This super-sized iron ore deposit belongs to a mixed type including magnetite and hematite, and the grade of its iron ore is between 25 percent and 62 percent.
