About 700 competitors from home and abroad swam across the Yangtze River in the central Chinese city Wuhan on Friday, marking the end of the 36th International Yangtze River Crossing Festival.

The competition commemorates Chairman Mao Zedong, who swam across the Yangtze River in Wuhan on July 16, 1966 at the age of 73.

The swimmers were divided into 12 teams and they followed Chairman Mao's swimming route.
