An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit east Taiwan at 2:10 p.m. Sunday (Beijing time), just five hours after a moderate earthquake hit almost the same region, according to a statement of the China National Seismological Network.
The epicenter, which is 9 km deep, is located at 23.4 degrees north latitude and 121.4 degrees east longitude, about 65 km away from Hualien County in east Taiwan, 75 km from Taitung County and 180 km from Taipei.
The tremor came after just more than five hours after a magnitude-5.3 quake hit the region at 9 a.m. Sunday.
No casualties have been reported so far.
