HK to launch sixth free post day to mark World Post day

Hong Kong will launch the "One Person, One Letter" Free Post Day on Friday for the sixth consecutive year, as an effort to encourage letter-writing and mark the World Post Day, the Hong kong Post announced on Monday.

Clement Cheung, the Postmaster General, said the event is organized to encourage people to keep in touch with someone close to their heart.

"Letter-writing is a unique means of communication as well as a powerful way to express tender love and care," said Cheung.

On Free Post Day, people are invited to send one personal letter for free to a designated recipient in Hong Kong. Special posting boxes will be placed at all post offices except the two mobile post offices to receive these personal letters on that day.

Marking the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874, Oct. 9 is declared as World Post Day by the UPU Congress in 1969 and has since been celebrated by different countries and regions around the world.
