More than 228 mln Chinese travel during eight-day holidays

More than 228 million Chinese traveled within the country during the seven-day National Day holidays and one-day Mid-Autumn Festival, according to the China National Tourism Administration and the National Bureau of Statistics Friday.

The figure was 28.5 percent up from the previous National Day holidays.

The statistics were collected in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country.

Tourism revenue during the holidays amounted to 100.7 billion yuan (14.74 billion U.S. dollars), up 26.4 percent from the previous National Day holidays. Per-capita spending averaged 441 yuan.

The revenue of the aviation industry reached 4.40 billion yuan and that of the railways 2.22 billion yuan. The revenue for 39 key tourist cities topped 42.2 billion yuan and that of other cities or scenic sites reached 51.8 billion yuan.

The holidays this year ran from Oct. 1 to 8 to celebrate the National Day which falls on Oct. 1 and the Mid-Autumn Festival on Oct. 3 this year.
