Boosted by increasing confidence in the future, Macao residents' Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI) rose to 66.7, the highest score ever registered in 10 years, the Macao Daily Times reported Friday.

The newspaper quoted the latest Macao Quality of Life report released Thursday as saying that PWI continued its positive momentum, jumping 1.2 points to 66.7 in the third quarter, after increasing more than 2 points in the previous quarter.

Meanwhile, National Well-Being Index (NWI) of Macao citizen rose 2.7 points to 63.7.

Using internationally recognized subjective indicators, PWI and NWI, the research team was able to monitor the perception of wellbeing of people in Macao, achieving record-high values as economic and political developments in recent months have apparently reassured people about their own futures and the overall future of the city.

The report, conducted by Macao Inter-University Institute (IIUM) , also indicates that Macao residents are satisfied with the progress made over the past ten years since the handover and a better quality of life.

According to the majority of the 1,260 respondents, the Macao government has been successful in its objective to improve the quality of life of citizens over its ten year mandate.

The report also states that the elections for Chief Executive, bringing forward a known "pro-business" figure, might also play a role here, reassuring the population that Macao will keep its current economic policies in the coming years.
