Official: Chinese Teaching Scholarship for Foreigners enhances mutual understanding

On November 10, the Award Ceremony for Recipients of the Chinese Language Teaching Scholarship for Foreigners was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University. State Councilor Liu Yandong, Minister of Education Yuan Guiren, Vice Minister of Education Hao Ping and some foreign ambassadors in China attended the ceremony.

State Councilor Liu Yandong emphasized that it was important to increase efforts on personnel training of Chinese language teaching, so as to meet increasing overseas demands for learning the language and to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and people from other countries.

Language is a tool of communication and a carrier of culture. Learning to use languages of different countries is conducive to the exchanges among different cultures and civilizations, and to the harmonious co-existence of mankind. The establishment of the Chinese Language Teaching Scholarship for Foreigners offered help for foreign youngsters to learn Chinese, Liu said.
