Guangzhou pledges to provide quality media service at 2010 Asian Games

Organizers of the 2010 Asian Games have vowed to provide quality service to the media that come to cover the continent's largest sporting event to be held next year in Guangzhou.

When addressing the opening of 1st World Press Briefing, Xu Ruisheng, executive deputy secretary general of the Guangzhou Organizing Committee for the Asian Games (GAGOC), said that Guangzhou will make efforts to create favorable work conditions for the media from around the world during the 2010 Asian Games.

"The Press Briefing serves as an important platform for communication between GAGOC and the media," said Xu, also vice mayor of Guangzhou. "It will enable us to learn the needs of the media."

Over 100 editors, journalists and photographers representing world-class news agencies, newspapers, magazines and other media organizations attended the three-day briefing which closes on Wednesday. They were given updates on the Games preparations as well as a range of services available to them at Games time.

The 16th Asian Games, which are held every four years, will take place in Guangzhou from November 12 to 27, 2010. More than 14,000 athletes, trainers and coaches from 45 countries and regions are expected to compete in 42 sports.
