People's Daily calls on nation to achieve more in coming year

People's Daily, the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of China, called on the nation to make more achievements in the coming year in an editorial to be published Friday.

The year 2010 is the last year of the country's 11th Five-Year Plan period, it said.

It is crucial for the country to do a good job in economic and social development next year, which will be significant for combating the global financial crisis, maintaining steady and relatively fast economic development, and laying a sound foundation for work in the 12th Five-Year Plan period, it said.

The Chinese people have the confidence and ability to build their country well and to make due contributions to the world, the editorial said.
