Six people were confirmed dead and one was injured when a tank truck crashed into a minibus Thursday evening in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

The accident happened at around 6 p.m. on a crossroad in the outer Chang'an District, the local traffic police authority said Friday.

A police officer said the truck was overspeeding when it crashed into the minibus that was driving at normal speed in its front.

The victims, all male, were passengers on the bus.

The local fire control bureau sent fire fighters to dilute the fuel in the tank to prevent fire.

The injured passenger was sent to hospital about 30 minutes after the accident.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
