130,000 cataract patients receive free treatment in Jiangxi

As of December 31, 2009, a total of 130,368 cases of cataract patients and 6,267 cases of cleft lip and palate patients had received free treatment in Jiangxi Province.

In May 2009, the “Bright Smile” project was officially launched in Jiangxi, 114 hospitals were designated to cater to cataract cases, while other 20 were designated to look out for cleft lip and palate patients in the province. By taking benefits from the new rural cooperative medical funds, health insurance funds and other aid funds, all the patients were ensured free operations and treatment in Jiangxi.

In the future, the province has worked out a plan to offer free special medical treatment to 200,000 cases of cataract patients whose visual acrity is less than 0.1 and 12,000 cases of patients with cleft lip and palate within the coming two years.
