The number of occupational disease cases stood at 100,000 or so, said Zhang Mingqi, deputy president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) Tuesday.
In recent years occupational diseases displayed the following features in China. First, the number is large, about 100,000; Second, there is a short interval from workers' exposure to toxic and hazardous jobs to suffering from disease, said Zhang Minqi.
The rate of occupational disease has been on the rise since 2005. More workers are suffering from occupational diseases than ever before, and 80 percent of them have pneumoconiosis known as black lung disease.
