The world's largest solar water-heating system has begun operation in Changshu, eastern China's Jiangsu province recently. It is composed of tens of thousands of solar-powered water heaters, with a heat-collector area amounting to around 15 thousand square meters, bigger than the areas of two standard pitches combined.
The system can generate more than 1,200 tons of hot water. It is expected the system will help to save nearly 3.9 million yuan per year in energy costs. In addition, it will save 3.5 tons of coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 9,000 tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 100 tons and eliminate large amounts of smoke and ashes.
