Five people were killed by toxic methane gas in a village in central China's Hubei Province Wednesday morning, local authorities said.
The tragedy occurred at around 10 a.m. as five villagers were cleaning a methane gas pool in Mudanping Village, Xianfeng County.
Rescuers rushed to the scene shortly after the accident but failed to revive the villagers.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
