An explosion went off early Thursday at a coal mine in central China's Henan Province. There was no immediate report of casualties.
The blast was reported in a pit in the resource-rich city of Pingdingshan. Witnesses said they heard loud bangs and saw some buildings toppled.
Safety authorities said rescue work was going on.
