The first intelligent grid pilot in a residential community was completed in Chongqing New North Zone on July 12.

This is also the largest intelligent residential community pilot in China powered by the State Grid.

It integrates three networks: the telecommunication network, the computer network and the cable television network.

Shan Yecai, the general manager of the Chongqing Electric Power Corporation said the completion of the first large-scale intelligent residential community pilot in Chongqing marks the beginning of intelligent Chongqing construction. It will significantly change patterns of energy usage and aid the development of a green economy in Chongqing.

The pilot was set up in March of this year when Chongqing was selected as the pilot city by the State Grid.

In the pilot intelligent residential community, the grid company can expand services and improve customer satisfaction by remote home appliance control and household electricity-usage guidance.

Meanwhile, with the intelligent interactive information provided by the data-exchange platform, community services, including electricity usage information, two-way interactive services, electricity distribution automation, electric vehicle charging management and intelligent home subsystems, can be achieved.

Xu Yaokun, chief engineer of the Chongqing Electric Power Corporation said that the authorities have introduced related technical standards on the intelligently-powered residential community to carry out the goal of the pilot, which is to save electricity.

Xu said residents are capable of more reasonable electricity usage in the intelligent communities because of multi-functional services, including smart interactive terminals, the 95598 customer service platform, SMS, telephone customer support, remote home appliance control, household electricity-usage guidance and various other services.

Xu said intelligent home appliances can automatically disconnect or reduce power during peak electricity-usage times according to presets and residents can charge electric vehicles during the non-peak times.

With popularity of the intelligently-powered residential community, the urban living environment as well as the quality of people’s daily lives will improve. It will also provide better power sector services and promote reasonable electricity usage.
