21st Hong Kong Book Fair opens

The week-long 21st Hong Kong Book Fair opened on July 21 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

The theme of the book fair this year was "Reading the World, Writing the Future" and over 90 writers will take part in 250 activities together with Hong Kong people, who will find themselves swimming in an ocean of books.

More than 500 publishers from 20 countries all over the world participated in the fair.

A senior official from the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council said there are about 2,000 booths in the book fair this year, representing an 8 percent growth in the exhibition area and the attendance is expected to reach up to 900,000.

The Trade and Development Council continues to cooperate with travel agencies to enable readers from mainland China to take part in the book fair.

The fair also set up an area with e-books and digital publications that attracted more than 20 exhibitors.
