The gross output of China's press and publication sectors in 2009 surpassed 1 trillion yuan and the added value exceeded 300 billion yuan, according to the Chinese government.
The General Administration of Press and Publication recently issued the 2009 Press and Publication Industry Analysis Report, which said that the industry nationwide has achieved output amounting to 1 percent of the GDP.
The added value of related activities in this industry, which includes publication, printing and promulgation, has exceeded 166 billion yuan and accounts for more than 60 percent added value of the core level of cultural industries over the same period.
A senior official from the department said those figures mean that China's press and publication industry has increased in scale and become a significant industrial sector.
