Police drops reporter arrest warrant

Wang Shengzhong, Vice Editor-in- Chief of the Beijing-based Economic Observer, confirmed that the Suichang Public Security Bureau, Zhejiang Province, has been mandated to remove a reporter's name from the list of criminals wanted. Meanwhile, Wang told People’s Daily Oline that Suichang Police Bureau canceled a visit plan to negotiate with the newspaper without explaining any reason.

Suichang Police Bureau issued a warrant on July23 to arrest Qiu Ziming, a reporter working for the Economic Observer.

Wang Shengzhong indicated that even though the criminal detention decision is annulled, the incident still spells an adverse influence for the newspaper’s reputation. They will follow up to the final settlement.
