Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks at a working conference on the cultural reform.
Li urged that the building of the country's public cultural service system be promoted and to speed the development of the cultural industry.
Efforts should be made to build a vibrant, effective and open-minded cultural system to promote the sound and fast development in the cultural sector, Li said.
Publicity officials from nine provincial-level regions in China, including Tianjin, Shanxi, Liaoning, Shanghai and Chongqing, attended the conference and voiced suggestions on the cultural reform.
Li noted that there was still a gap between the development in China' s cultural sector and the current situation of the people's increasing demand for cultural products, the ever-evolving communication technology and the country's economic growth.
Efforts should be made to promote the diversified development in China' s cultural industry and that development should adhere to the principle of serving the people, Li said.
Li also called for opposition to vulgar elements in the cultural sector.
