Thanks to Chongqing Telecom's new service platform for students, the students in Chongqing can use their mobile phones as cards to borrow books from libraries, take meals in the canteens and go in and out of the dormitories now, according to Chongqing Daily.
The service platform is based on the concept of the Internet of Things, which refers to the networked connection of everyday objects, and will help the campus to achieve informatization and to be more convenient for students.
The platform is a many-in-one platform combining the functions of the dining card, student ID, library card, access card and other necessary cards on campus. It saves students the trouble of carrying multiple cards, which will now all be replaced by a single cell phone.
Before that, China Mobile and China Unicom in Chongqing also launched a similar service named "mobile phone wallet" that combined the functions of bus cards and bank cards. And Chongqing Telecom's new service platform expanded the "mobile phone wallet" into campus.
It's said that the system has been piloted in schools and companies in Chongqing and will be expanded to the public early next year.
