China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin arrived in Tokyo Wednesday afternoon, starting a seven-day official goodwill visit to Japan as guest of the Japanese government.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said in a written statement delivered upon arrival at the airport that China and Japan are both important countries in Asia and the world.

Sino-Japanese relationship constitutes one of the most important bilateral relationships for the two countries, and the development of bilateral relations faces important opportunities as this year marks the 35th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral ties, said Jia.

He said this visit is aimed at enhancing political mutual trust, expanding friendly exchanges, deepening reciprocal cooperation and pushing forward the long-term, sound and steady growth of bilateral ties.

He said he believes that this visit will accomplish the above-mentioned goal through joint efforts from both sides.
