Visiting European Commissioner for health Markos Kyprianou declared Wednesday in Beijing that EU and China would take further steps together to ensure the safety of food exports.
At the press conference held in Beijing, Mr. Kyprianou said his discussion with his Chinese counterpart Li Changjiang, minister of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine involved issues concerning China's food and feed exports, and illegal exports.
He said further cooperative actions would include meetings on illegal exports, closer cooperation on the sanitary requirements of fruit and vegetable exports from EU to China, and a particular real-time online access of Chinese officials to information about problems of Chinese products reported in EU's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
He recognized that the Chinese government had shown strong political commitment on and adopted programs of food safety. He expected to see results of the implementation.
