China urges int'l community to promote dialogue among Iraqi factions

China has urged the world community to support the Iraqi government for its efforts for dialogue among various factions, reconciliation and joint participation in the country's reconstruction process.

Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Dawei voiced the call in a speech at the expanded foreign ministerial meeting of Iraq's neighboring countries being held in Turkey's largest city of Istanbul on Saturday.

In the speech, Wu outlined China's stance on the Iraqi issue, saying the Chinese people have a deep sympathy to the Iraqi people for their difficulties and challenges, and will continue to offer China's efforts to support the reconstruction of Iraq.

China also appreciates the constructive role played by Iraq's neighbors for the war-torn country and hoped parties concerned to establish mutual trust and good-neighborly relations through friendly consultations, Wu said.

The Chinese official noted that China always favors to settle urgent issues in the Gulf region and in the Middle East as a whole through diplomatic dialogue rather than confrontation, promote peace, stability and progress of the region, with the aim of creating suitable outside environment to resolve the Iraq issue.

The Middle East, especially the Gulf region is an important part of the world community, which should play a constructive role in promoting reconciliation dialogue in Iraq, good-neighborly relations among regional countries, and achieve peace and stability in the region. China will take an active part in the process, Wu said.

Foreign ministers and senior representatives from Iraq's neighboring countries, members of the UN Security Council, the European Union, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Conference attended the Istanbul meeting.
