Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met with Spanish King Juan Carlos I on Monday to discuss bilateral relations.

Hui conveyed Chinese President Hu Jintao's greeting to the king and said that both China and Spain are ancient and civilized nations that enjoy a traditional friendship.

The vice premier said bilateral relations have grown thanks to the efforts of the peoples of China and Spain and their governments since the two nations established diplomatic ties.

In 2005, the two countries established the all-round strategic partnership to drive forward bilateral cooperation.

In recent years, the two nations have strengthened high-level exchanges and developed closer communications. The China-Spain Forum provides a good channel for broadening cooperation in various fields.

Both sides have made achievements in the fields of culture, technology and tourism and enhanced their cooperation and support in international and regional affairs.

Carlos said he is satisfied with the development of the all-round strategic partnership between China and Spain, adding that his country is willing to further enhance cooperation with China in such fields as economy and trade, culture, science and technology and environment.

On the same day, Hui also met with the First Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega. They reached a broad consensus on economy and trade, agriculture, water conservancy, environment and renewable energy sources.

Hui arrived here for an official visit to Spain on Sunday and will attend the fourth China-Spain Forum Tuesday.
