Suriname Vice President Ramdien Sardjoe reiterated on Thursday the country's support for the one China policy, saying Taiwan is part of China, news reaching here from Paramaribo said.
The Taiwan issue is China's internal affair and Suriname has no intention to interfere, Sardjoe said during a meeting with Ji Peiding, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC).
The vice president hoped for an early reunification of China.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 31 years ago, Suriname and China have conducted fruitful cooperation in various fields in politics, economy and culture, and kept close coordination in dealing with international affairs, Sardjoe said.
Both sides have exchanged high-level visits in recent years to promote further development of bilateral ties, he said.
Noting his visit to China in June, Sardjoe said the ties between the two countries have entered a new phase and both sides should seize the opportunity to implement the deals signed by the two countries' leaders and achieve pragmatic results in cooperation.
Speaker for Suriname's National Assembly Paul Somohardjo and Foreign Minister Lygia Kraag-Keteldijk also voiced support for the one China policy during their meetings with Ji.
Ji, who led a delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of NPC, expressed his appreciation for Suriname's position on the one China policy and China's reunification.
China is ready to join efforts with Suriname to explore new ways and fields of cooperation to lift bilateral ties to new heights, Ji said.
The Chinese delegation arrived in Surinam on Tuesday for a four-day visit.
