The Chinese worker missing after Tuesday's twin explosions in Algiers has been confirmed dead while two of his seven injured colleagues remained in hospital on Wednesday, the China State Construction Engineering Corporation sources said.
The victim, a 34-year-old employee of the China State Construction Engineering Corporation, was at a construction project near one of the explosions. Seven of his colleagues were also injured, and two remained under medical care Wednesday but their injuries were not critical.
Chinese President Hu Jintao sent condolences Wednesday to his Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika over the terrorist attacks in Algiers that killed at least 26 people.
The president said China is strictly opposed to any form of terrorism and he urged Chinese organizations and companies in Algeria to beef up security measures.
Two car bombs, one targeting the offices of the UNHCR and the other exploding near the Algerian Supreme Court building, killed at least 26 people and left nearly 200 others injured, according to an official tally. An Algerian Health Ministry source had previously said 67 people had been killed.
