Canadian International Trade Minister Emerson, who arrived in Beijing on January 7th, told reporters that the Chinese market is very important to Canada. Canada will promote bilateral economic and trade relations with China through two-way investment, and scientific and technological cooperation.
According to the data from Canada, the rapid development of the Chinese market provides a lot of business opportunities for Canadian enterprises. In the past seven years, China's exports to Canada increased 100 percent. In 2006, bilateral trade volume reached 42 billion Canadian dollars, an increase of 15% over the previous year. Emerson said spiritedly that since China has become Canada's second largest trading partner, he will be exploring new approaches to promote trade and economic cooperation between our two countries.
Emerson also said the Canadian air services trade delegation that accompanied him will discuss expanding two-way freight and passenger service with the Chinese side. The two sides will also discuss preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
