The Director of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, Chen Yunlin, discussed the Taiwan situation in a meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte here on Thursday.

They also exchanged views about other issues of mutual concern.

Negroponte arrived in China on Wednesday for the fifth round of strategic dialogue between China and the United States, which is being held on Jan. 17 and 18.
