The General Assembly Hall at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna had a particularly busy evening on January 30. Four hundred people, including officials from the Vienna UN Office, diplomats, and staff from international institutions gathered to celebrate Chinese Spring Festival with Chinese friends.
The General Assembly Hall trimmed with red Chinese lanterns, "Chinese knots", red couplets and curtains with the "China seal," and five cute mascots, all added joy to the Chinese Lunar New Year.
The "2008 Chinese New Year" activity was jointly organized by China's Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Vienna and other international delegations with the United Nations Office at Vienna. It was the first time Chinese New Year was celebrated in the United Nations headquarters in Vienna.
During the Spring Festival activities, Chinese students studying in Austria and the staff of Vienna-based international organizations and institutions of Chinese nationality also put on a performance, demonstrating the different cultures in China.
