The Chinese Language School of Vienna on Saturday became the first Chinese language school outside China to be awarded the title of "Confucius Classroom."
Under an agreement with the Beijing-based Confucius Institute Headquarters, a non-profit education-promotion organization, the Chinese Language School of Vienna will be allowed to launch courses of Chinese language teaching, training of teachers and Chinese-language proficiency tests, in efforts to promote the Chinese language and culture in Austria.
Peter Wittmann, honorary president of the school, and Jia Jianxin, cultural attache of the Chinese embassy, attended the inauguration ceremony of the Confucius Classroom and offered their congratulations.
Addressing the ceremony, they said people around the world should understand different cultures and learn from each other amid the trend of globalization.
The Chinese School of Vienna, founded in 1995, has 26 teachers and nearly 500 students.
The Confucius Institute, a specially-designed organization for meeting people's demand for access to the Chinese language and information about China, has expanded its reach to over 60 countries with around 200 outlets across the world. Source: Xinhua
