More countries have sent messages to Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao to express their sympathy to China over the recent snow havoc in southern China.

In their messages, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Swedish Prime Minster Fredrik Reinfeldt extended deep sympathy and sincere solicitude to the regions that were hit by the protracted snow havoc.

Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, Belgian Karel De Gucht and U.S. deputy secretary of state John Negroponte also sent messages.

The worst winter weather in five decades in China has snarled the country's central, southern and eastern regions in the past month and brought huge economic losses.

Statistics showed that more than 100 million people have been affected, and at least 80 people have died as a result of the severe weather.
