The first Chinese Proficiency Competition in Bangladesh was held in Dhaka Friday.
A total of 51 people applied to attend the competition. Most of them are from the Chinese Department of Dhaka University and the Confucius Institute of North-South University.
The competition was divided into junior group and senior group. The three contestants from the senior group had been awarded the scholarship from the Chinese government and studied Chinese in China.
The contestants from the junior group have no study experience in China, they have learned Chinese for several months to one year.
During the competition, the contestants made speeches on various topics and performed cultural shows, and finally they answered questions related to China.
Patrick from the Confucius Institute got the first prize from the junior group. He also became the first Bangladeshi to get scholarship from the Chinese government in 2008.
Patrick is a Chinese-Bangladeshi who was born in Bangladesh. He has learned Chinese for six months. Before that he couldn't speak Chinese.
Cultural Councilor of the Chinese Embassy Liu Sanzhen said that the competition is to promote the Chinese learning in Bangladesh, and also a preliminary contest of the 7th Chinese Bridge competition to be held this year in China.
