The Bangladeshi caretaker government has reaffirmed it's support for the one-China policy and opposed Taiwan's referendum for joining the United Nations.

While meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zheng Qingdian here Monday, Bangladeshi caretaker government Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Chowdhury said, "We recognize only one China, that is the People's Republic of China. We oppose any part of China seeking the membership of the United Nations."

Chowdhury said, "We are committed to the one-China policy. We will not change it."

He said since the diplomatic relations established between the two countries in 1975, the relations of Bangladesh and China are very close and friendly.

"The previous governments and the current government all give very much importance to the relations," he said.
