The World Economic Forum (WEF) revealed the latest tourism competitiveness report on March 4th in Geneva. Switzerland, Austria and Germany still remain the top three. China ranks 62nd: 9 places higher than its previous ranking.
The WEF pointed out in its communique that this year's assessment of tourism competitiveness to 130 countries and regions focused on both tourism development and environmental protection. In addition, infrastructure, transportation, sanitary conditions, as well as natural and cultural resources, are key factors considered.
Switzerland won the highest score in water quality, railway facilities, and communications system. Furthermore its highway conditions and employee standards earn it a higher ranking. Included in the top ten are (in order of rank): Australia, Spain, Britain, the U.S., Sweden, Canada and France.
In Asia, China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) (14th) and Singapore (16th) received the highest ranking. Japan, South Korea and Malaysia rank 23rd, 31st and 32nd respectively.
