President of the Commonwealth Journalist Association Hassan Shahriar has highly praised China's economic achievement over the past 30 years since it adopted its reform and opening-up policy.

The senior Bangladeshi journalist told Xinhua on Tuesday that China has made tremendous progress in economic development since it opted for an open market economy in the late 1970s.

"Since then the country's economic growth has been quite steady," he said.

Many industrialized and developing countries prefer China's consumer goods, garments and machinery, which they say are cheap but durable, he added.

"The fast economic growth helps improve living conditions in China," Hassan said.

He said a target of 8 percent GDP growth set by Chinese PremierWen Jiabao in his report to the First Session of the 11th National People's Congress is based on China's economic situation.
