French police have arrested a suspected murder, who stabbed a Chinese overseas student to death in Paris, China's Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

According to a release by the Chinese ministry, officials of the Chinese embassy in Paris met with the chief of the French police bureau two days after the Chinese student was killed.

The Chinese embassy and Foreign Ministry have paid close attention to the investigation into the case and assisted the families of the victim, the release said.

Yan Ming, from China's Tianjin city, was stabbed in an apparent revenge attack soon after he and some other Chinese students had a quarrel with several local youths on March 16 near the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris.

Another Chinese student also sustained injuries in the same attack, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
