Vietnam persists in the one-China policy which puts Taiwan as an integral part of China, a Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Monday.

In response to Vietnam's reaction to the March 22 election in China's Taiwan where Ma Ying-jeou was elected as its head, Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung said: "Taiwan is an integral part of China. The government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government that represents the entire Chinese people," Vietnam News Agency reported.

The spokesman concluded by highlighting the Vietnamese government's full support to the cause for a united China and calling for efforts to develop the cross-strait relations, thus contributing to peace and stability in the region.
