Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika left Beijing on Wednesday evening for Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, continuing his weeklong state visit to China.

Mutharika is here at the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao. During his stay in Beijing, Mutharika met with Hu and Premier Wen Jiabao, exchanging views on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern.

Apart from Beijing and Chengdu, he will also visit Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province, and Shanghai.
