Chinese Vice-Premier Li Keqiang said here Friday that China will continue to strengthen good cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the Chinese government believes WHO's role is important, and will consolidate friendly ties with WHO and expand cooperation in fields like epidemic prevention and treatment, health education, medical training and building better public health.

In a meeting with WHO Director-General Margaret Chan, Li said that China will learn from international experience to further improve its medical service and strive to give health care to all.

Chan also pledged to deepen cooperation with China and said WHO will strengthen contacts and coordination with all member countries.

Chan, former Hong Kong health chief, became Director-General of WHO in January 2007, the first Chinese person to head a U.N. agency, and is here to attend a WHO meeting on global policies.
